A preliminary task is a small sequence, which included the different editing techniques i needed to use, such as continuity, shot reverse shot, 180 degree rule, framing as well as micro-aspects. I completed this preliminary task to help improve my editing skills, as well as improving my filming skills and will help me to effectively use the filming techniques in the future.
At the start of the video, Sean can be found running down the hall. We have used the ‘Rule Of Thirds’ by putting the subject in the middle third, which makes the viewer focus on him. This particular shot was a low angle shot, which worked well with the non-diegetic music that we edited in to create suspense. The non diegetic-sound could have been earlier, as it appears to cut off just before Danny begins to speak, which does not look professional.
After the scene which included the ‘Rule Of Thirds’, we shot a scene, which included the ‘Match On Action’ technique. We have used this to make the shot more fluid and smooth, and to show the progression of the scene. To improve this scene we could have taken more time with the ‘Match On Action’ shot as this was the only ‘Match On Action; shot that we used, as the rest were all jump cuts. The next filming technique used was the ‘180 Degree Rule’. We used the ‘180 Degree Rule’ to not confuse the audience while the conversation was occurring. If we had shot the conversation from the same angle it would have become confusing. The ‘180 Degree Rule’ shot had slightly different angles, which affected the quality of the scene. If the two shots had been matched more accurately the scene would have flowed much better. |
